A pre-recorded streaming VIDEO replay of the September 2023 webcast, Legal Ethics Opinions Every Lawyer Must Read and Think About, Featuring Jack Marshall
Every U.S. bar association, as well as the ABA, issues periodic opinions on controversies, vagaries, and new developments in legal ethics. This is where ethical standards develop and evolve. Though many legal ethics opinions involve minutiae or lay out rules interpretations that remain confined to a single jurisdiction, others act as catalysts for significant change in perception of what kind of conduct is considered ethical and professional.
But few lawyers read legal ethics opinions at all, much less those in jurisdictions other than their own. This is understandable but perilous. In “Recent Legal Ethics Opinions Every Lawyer Must Read and Think About,” a three-hour, interactive CLE seminar, attendees will examine crucial developments in legal ethics laid out in recent legal ethics opinions in Virginia and other jurisdictions, and consider their implication for legal practice, clients, the profession, and the business of law.
…and more
Each issue is introduced with one or more challenging hypotheticals to foster discussion regarding the ethics developments involved. The seminar also offers useful resources and analysis tools that will be invaluable in navigating legal ethics dilemmas to come.
“Recent Legal Ethics Opinions Every Lawyer Must Read and Think About” was developed exclusively for VACLE and is taught by attorney Jack Marshall, president of the Alexandria-based ethics training firm ProEthics, twice honored by the American Continuing Legal Education Association for innovation in seminar development. He has created and taught ethics courses for over 30 bar associations, as well as many law firms, federal agencies, and corporate legal departments. He is also an award-winning stage director, an ethics consultant in fields ranging from business and academia to sports, and a member of the D.C. and Massachusetts bars.
