LEO: Confidences and Secrets - Merger of Law LE Op. 631
Confidences and Secrets - Merger of Law Firms.
November 20, 1984
The law firms of attorney M and attorney R merge. Prior to the merger attorney M represented client One in a defense of a suit by person Two; attorney R represented client Three in an unrelated suit against One and Two prior to the merger.
It is not improper for attorney M and attorney R to continue their respective representations of One and Three subsequent to the merger so long as attorney M and attorney R maintain the confidences and secrets of their respective clients and, after full disclosure obtain the consent of their respective clients to the continued representations.
