LEO: Fees — Referring Accounts to Collection, LE Op. 946
Fees — Referring Accounts to Collection Agencies.
June 25, 1987
It is not per se improper for an attorney to refer client accounts to collection agencies as long as the attorney is careful to preserve the client's confidences and secrets and to avoid controversies with his client concerning the fees. Should the arrangement for collection include splitting a legal fee, a violation of Ethical Consideration 3-8 may result. [Canon 2; EC:3-8]
