Advertising - Legal Aid Society Informational Posters.
October 13, 1987
You wish to know whether or not it is ethical for a Legal Aid Society to post informational posters about the kinds of services provided by the society on bulletin boards in various clerk's offices.
Disciplinary Rule 2-101(A) [ DR:2-101] states that "a lawyer shall not, on behalf of himself or any other lawyer affiliated with him or his firm, use or participate in the use of any form of public communication if such communication contains a false, fraudulent, misleading, or deceptive statement or claim." The Committee opines that it would not be per se improper for the Legal Aid Society to post notices of its services provided that nothing within the notices are false, fraudulent, misleading or deceptive.
