Advocacy for students should ensure that each child receives a fair and appropriate public education. In 2017, the U.S. Supreme Court stated that the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) demands an educational program to enable a child to make progress that is appropriate in light of the child’s circumstances, not merely de minimus progress from year to year.
