A pre-recorded streaming VIDEO replay of the August 2023 webcast, Practical Advice: Basics of Estate Planning
Everybody needs an estate plan, and most clients are well-served by a basic design. But basic does not necessarily mean simple. Even the most foundational estate planning documents are complex and require careful thought when drafting. Do not fall into the trap of believing (or letting your clients believe) that you can simply “fill in the blanks” on a form document and call the job done. As estate planners, we are not providing a commodity that can be compared to online, do it yourself documents, we are providing service which has value beyond the forms our clients execute. It is our job to understand the documents we are drafting, and to be able to adequately explain them to our clients.
This course provides an overview of the essential estate planning documents: Will, Revocable Trust, Durable Power of Attorney and Health Care Power of Attorney and provide you the fundamental knowledge you need to be able to properly prepare and explain these documents to your clients, including drafting tips, advice and forms. We also begin to cover more advanced planning topics using the Revocable Trust, such as asset protection, designing distribution provisions, and multi-generational planning.
